In 2006 TonyBear.com played about 15 songs an hour. Under the new rate, that's a royalty obligation in 2006 of about 1.28 cents per listener-hour. In '06 my Internet radio station racked up more than 500,000 listener hours. If my station had stayed on it was probably headed for a million hours in 2007. You do the math on the royalties - I'm a little teary-eyed right now! There's not enough interest in the world for advertising and sponsorship on Internet radio to offset that kind of expense, so that means more of the small guys are gonna have to cut-and-run like yours truly. This means that your choices for where you get your music will be even more limited unless you tell the people in Washington to roll all this back.
