In The Mix with Dark Vader! TB!: How long have you been entertaining people with what you do? Vader: Since about 1986. TB!: What got you started in the business – what led you to a career in your business? Vader: I started deejay-ing at house parties when I was in high school and found that I was good at it. I kept pursuing it through DeVry where I earned a degree in Electronics Engineering. This helped me to grow the business into what it is today. TB!: Who were some of your biggest influences as you got started? Vader: WBLS radio station in New York City. I listened to DJ Red Alert on Saturday nights. TB!: You know what they say to entertainers – ‘better keep your day job!’ What’s your day job? Would you ever not have a day job, I mean would entertaining ever be your only gig? Vader: My day job is directly connected to entertaining. I own Unique Force Production, which provides sound and light for various promoters/individuals in the valley. TB!: What career path would you follow if you weren’t being an entertainer? Vader: Electronics Engineering. TB!: Of all the skills you’ve obtained through the years what would you like to improve? Vader:: My skills as an emcee. TB!: Who are some of the bigger names in your business that you follow and who inspire you to do better? Vader: Mark Bowen and Chaney Harp. They set-up equipment for concerts. Chaney is a sound engineer that is highly regarded in this business. TB!: What music is in your personal CD player/mp3 player right now? Vader: Jaime Foxx' Unpredictable CD. TB!: How would you describe the genre/style of entertaining that you do – what should people expect to hear when they come to your gig? Vader: A mixture of Hip-Hop and Reggae. TB!: Describe your audience, the people who follow you from gig-to-gig. What do you think makes them want to come to your gigs time-and-time again? Vader: They come out week after week to hear the fresh music. TB!: Describe your type of entertainment to someone who has never head you perform. Vader: I do a lot of reggae remixes. I also introduce new soca and reggae music on a consistent basis. TB!: Describe your first gig, the very first time you were in front of a crowd, doing what you do. Vader: I was at my Dad’s apartment in NYC playing for a few friends. It was great. |
